Sexual Complexes

In Western countries, the following sexual complexes are known and quite common: Alice in Wonderland, Titania, the Knight and the Libertine, Messalina, Cinderella, Don Quixote, Madonna and the Whore, Don Juanism (womanizer), the complexes of Othello, Romeo and Juliet, Tristan and Isolde complex.
What does the Alice in Wonderland complex mean? The Alice in Wonderland complex develops in women living in a fantasy world. Their rich imagination creates a love scenario, an ideal union in which each of the partners plays a certain role. These dreams lead to the fact that women with such a complex live in anticipation of meeting with a partner - the embodiment of their fantasies.
What does the Titania complex mean? With the Titania complex, a woman creates the image of an ideal man in her imagination, whom she has been looking for all her life. The male ideal is formed under the influence of literary characters, film characters. Heroes of novels or actors are included in sexual fantasies, in particular, during sexual contact, a woman imagines another person as a partner.
What does the Knight and the Libertine complex mean? The essence of the complex of the Knight and the Libertine is that a woman is looking for a man who will be a knight and a libertine at the same time. There are two different types in this complex: the Knight, as the embodiment of masculinity, noble strength, inspiring confidence, a sense of security, support for a woman who adores him, romantic, pure and innocent, and the Libertine, the personification of brute, elemental male power, a supersexual man.
What does the Messalina complex mean? The Messalina complex is inherent in women who are passionate, sensual, sexually excitable, making high demands on a partner, changing partners, that is, women of an orgiastic sex culture. In different periods of history, the sexual qualities of a woman were highly valued, but even today many people consider the image of a sensual woman to be attractive, believing that passion, sensuality is the main thing in marriage.
What does the Cinderella complex mean? The Cinderella complex reflects the passive life position of a woman waiting for a prince from a fairy tale who will introduce her to the world of adventure, beauty, and comfort. Dreams of an extraordinary, handsome man are typical for early adolescence, but in some women they persist into adulthood. Such women dream of being adored, noticed, introduced to the big world.
What does the Don Quixote complex mean? With the Don Quixote complex, a man shows illusory expectations and desires towards a woman, speaks of her with adoration, idealizes her, puts her on a pedestal, worships her.
What does Madonna and the Whore complex mean? The name of the complex of the Madonna and the Whore very accurately defines the behavior of many men brought up on the traditions of Western culture. It consists in the contradictory assessment of women by men. On the one hand, they emphasize the value of femininity, fidelity, virtue, devotion; on the other hand, they value sensual, accessible, flirtatious women. One is bestowed with spiritual love, chosen as a wife and mother, the other is lustful, she is more often sought to satisfy her sexual needs. Often such men divide women directly into two categories: women-wives and women-lovers. This is a very common complex. Even a superficial acquaintance with the history of culture shows where this complex comes from - it is a consequence of the double morality inherent in men, and a specific upbringing that cultivates recognition of their superiority.
What does the Don Juan complex mean? Don Juanism is a style of behavior, the purpose of which is to conquer women, to possess them only to satisfy one’s sexual needs. The greater the number of love affairs such men have, the stronger they are strengthened in the awareness of their own male value. At the same time, a woman is considered as a thing that, after it has been mastered, loses its value and interest.
What does the Othello complex mean? The Othello complex is about morbid jealousy. Men with such a complex are jealous of their partner most often under the influence of alcohol, drawing scenes of betrayal in their minds. This complex should be considered more a manifestation of fear of a woman, fear of being ridiculed, of losing one's own dignity, than the result of a desire to completely possess a woman.

What does the Romeo and Juliet complex mean? The Romeo and Juliet complex is considered love at first sight, the desire for an early marriage. Its origin is associated with the prohibition of premarital contacts, when sexual love was allowed only in marriage. The need to connect is so strong with this complex that it allows lovers to overcome all obstacles that come their way. In our time, this complex is almost not found, since the tolerant attitude towards premarital sex is widespread and marriage is also not a big problem.
What does the Tristan and Isolde complex mean? In the complex of Tristan and Isolde, eroticism and guilt are combined. Persons with this complex, having violated the prohibition of premarital sexual intercourse, experience conflicting feelings: on the one hand, sexual satisfaction, on the other, a sense of guilt for violating the moral norm recognized by them.
It should be said that the complexes discussed above are not pathological in themselves and do not cause sexual disorders, they only create a background for their development. Sexual myths play a similar role, for example, the myth of the femme fatale, the erotic paradise, the golden age, and so on. Complexes in behavior, myths, forming certain attitudes towards sex or a partner, can contribute to the creation of conditions for the development of sexual health disorders. The myth of the fateful, fatal woman is characteristic of almost all male-dominated cultures.

The fatality of a woman is expressed in different ways, but most often a woman seems to be the embodiment of an evil deity, an evil force, a seducer of a man, etc. An erotic paradise is also a common cultural myth, which reflects the features characteristic of a particular culture. For example, in a Muslim paradise, the houris give eternal sexual pleasure to men, and in a Christian one, a person passes from earthly love to divine love.
The formation of sexual complexes and sexual psychotraumas, which in the future may affect sexual behavior, is facilitated by improper upbringing. There are complexes that are widely spread in the world. These include, for example, a complex that appears in a woman after the birth of a child and consists in a sharp change in her attitude towards a man - positive or, conversely, negative. In the latter case, the man is reduced to the role of "a male bee".
- The most common causes of sexual trauma in childhood are the following measures or situations used by parents that may lead to a negative attitude towards sexual life in the future:
- severe punishment of a boy or girl for childish sexual play, accompanied by an "explanation" that such play is disgusting;
- suggesting to children that sexual life is sinful and disgusting;
- a situation where a child accidentally sees sexual intercourse and interprets it as a form of mutual mockery of people;
- the fear that physiological manifestations of sexuality can cause in an unprepared child - masturbation, spontaneous erections, menstruation, erotic dreams.
These factors can cause the formation of a sexual inferiority complex.
Changes in culture, the clash of different layers of culture, in particular in interethnic marriages, form their own complexes and myths, which can become the basis for the emergence of sexual disorders in the future.
