Creative Visualization Exercises

What is a basic creative visualization exercise?

First think about what you would like to achieve. For this exercise, choose something simple that you can imagine easily. It could be an item you would like to have, an event, a situation you would like to be in, or some circumstance in your life that you would like to improve.

Make yourself comfortable, sitting or lying down, in a quiet place where no one will disturb you. Relax your body completely. Imagine alternately relaxing all the muscles in your body, starting from your toes and ending with your head, imagining how all the tension leaves you. Breathe deeply and slowly into your belly. Count from 10 to 1, feeling more relaxed with each count.

When you feel completely relaxed, start imagining exactly what you want. If it is an object, imagine that you have it, that you use it, enjoy and admire it, show it to your friends. If this is an event or situation, imagine yourself in it and imagine that everything around you is happening the way you want. You can imagine what people are saying or provide any details that can make the picture more real.

You can do this for a relatively short time, maybe just a few minutes - whatever you want. Enjoy the process. This process should be as joyous as in a child dreaming of a birthday present. Now, with the thought or image still in your mind, give yourself a positive affirmation (aloud or mentally, whichever you prefer) about what you are imagining.

These positive settings, called affirmations, are an important part of creative visualization. Later we will discuss them in more detail. End the visualization all the time by giving yourself a firm statement, such as: What I wanted or something even better, has already been given to me for the highest good of all. Something different from what you imagined might happen, things might even get better, but you must remember that the process of visualization is only beneficial.

If you have doubts or conflicting thoughts, do not fight them and do not try to eliminate them, as opposition will increase them. Let them pass freely through your consciousness, and meanwhile just return to your positive attitudes and images.

Do this for as long as the process seems interesting to you and brings joy. Maybe five minutes, maybe half an hour. Repeat the exercise every day, or as often as possible. As you can see, the basic process is relatively simple. However, to use it really effectively requires an understanding of the details and continuous improvement.
