Dracaena Omens and Superstitions

Dracaena is a common plant, which is colloquially called "dragon" or "dragon tail". Despite the prickly, even aggressive look, people love this indoor culture for its unpretentious nature, long life and good reputation. Over the long years that the plant lives next to people, observant flower growers have laid down signs, superstitions, even exciting legends about dracaena.

Of weddings and dragons

Like many green inhabitants of our apartments, dracaena is a tropical resident; its homeland is Africa and Asia. For example, dracaena Marginata was first discovered in Madagascar. Together with the “dragon tail”, botanists brought fairy tales from hot countries, which occupy an honorable place in the culture of local residents.

In the African savannahs, to this day, they say that the dracaena grew from the blood of a terrible dragon that died during a battle with an elephant: the juice of a tree-like dracaena growing in Africa tends to turn red on contact with air. The plant itself symbolizes strength and victory over evil.

Who knows, maybe this legend is based on some real event. After all, these reptiles are remembered on all continents: in Asia, dragons are loved and revered; and the inhabitants of Europe had heard enough about them to include them in the list of interpretations of the old divination on wax as a good sign.

Tree of happiness

The Aztecs domesticated dracaena long before Europeans arrived in America.

One poor young man wooed the daughter of the high priest. The old man was so impressed by the impudence of a commoner that he did not execute him. Laughing, he stuck his staff into the ground and declared that the young man would marry his daughter no sooner than the dry stick turned green. Ignoring the ridicule that the townspeople showered on him, the guy began to water the staff, and after a while it let out sharp long leaves. The proud priest had no choice but to keep his word.

Since then, a sign has become stronger behind the dracaena: the one who cuts off a piece of its trunk on the night of the full moon will always be happy in love.

Main signs and omens about dracaena

    Signs and superstitions endow Dracaena Marginat with various properties:
  • It cleanses the home of destructive energy: it helps getting rid of depression, apathy, panic attacks, poor - for no apparent reason - feeling.
  • It has a beneficial effect on the physical condition, helps restore strength during illness or during significant stress; has a strengthening effect on teeth, joints, bones in general.
  • Blooming dracaena is quite rare. But if it has already bloomed, expect great luck: career advancement, an unexpected increase in salary, a win, an expensive gift.

What do signs and superstitions say about dracaena in the house?

Judging by the numerous reviews of amateur flower growers, the “dragon tail” really does a good job with the role of the guardian of peace in the family. Signs attribute to it the ability to improve energy, prevent disputes, quarrels and conflicts not without reason.

In China, it is customary to give dracaena to newlyweds as a symbol of love: the inhabitants of the Celestial Empire are sure that the plant will provide comfort and harmony to young spouses. There is even a sign by which you can determine the strength of feelings between spouses: the more magnificent and the sooner the home “tree of love” grows, the stronger the mutual affection of the young. And on the contrary, if the flower began to wither, this is a bell that it is worth working on relationships, because they are in danger of dying out.

They say about dracaena Marginat that it dries up when it takes on the negative from one of the family members. Under the negative one can understand either the evil eye, a yet imperceptible disease, or a person’s own heavy energy.

Superstitions and signs say that for the home any dracaena is a talisman that can attract love, wealth and good luck.

    For example, Sander's dracaena, similar to bamboo, has various properties:
  • a plant of three stems guards family happiness;
  • five sprouts guarantee financial well-being;
  • seven dracaena stems will take care of mental and physical health;
  • well, a whole “bamboo fence” of 21 stems promises great wealth.

It should be noted that the superstitions about the number of dracaena stems are not taken of thin air: the meanings of the numbers are similar to numerological traditions, where, for example, the number 5 means victory, 7 means good luck, etc.

Superstitions about the influence of dracaena on career

It is useful to keep the dracaena in the office: according to signs, it helps the owner achieve the intended goals, develops perseverance, diligence, and determination. For shy people, the flower relieves doubts about their own importance, gives confidence and eloquence, helping move up the career ladder and defend their rights before their superiors.

The Godsef Dracaena varieties, among other things, improves thought processes.

The "dragon" is kept in offices for another reason: it is believed that it is able to absorb radiation from monitors no worse than a cactus. And the ability of a plant to saturate the air with antimicrobial substances is not a superstition, but a proven fact.

For lonely hearts

If presenting a dracaena as a gift to a young married couple is considered good manners, then in the case of a single lady, everything is not so simple - a proud woman can easily regard the gift as an unpleasant hint of interference in her personal life.

The fact is that, according to signs, dracaena attracts grooms for unmarried ladies. After all, its main concern is creating comfort in the house, providing love and happiness. Moreover, it is believed that it is the given as a gift (and not stolen, as it is advised to do with flowers) “dragon” that will best cope with the role of the keeper of one’s hearth.

Therefore, before giving a dracaena to an unmarried friend, think about whether she will be glad of your goodwill. It is best to present the shoot under some plausible pretext, for example, after transplanting your own bush.

Bad omens about dracaena and how to avoid them

    Negative superstitions exist even for such a peaceful and useful flower as dracaena. It is quite natural that they are associated with the illness or death of the "dragon's tail".
  • Sluggish, gradually drying up leaves predict financial losses, illnesses of family members, parting with a loved one (not necessarily a break, an unexpected long separation caused by circumstances is possible).
  • The death of a room dracaena promises the collapse of a family or other events of comparable scale, for example, catastrophic monetary losses.
  • We said above that in certain cases the dracaena juice turns red in the air. There is a belief that the "bloody tears" of dracaena portend the death of one of the spouses or close relatives. Of course, the sign implies a situation where no external damage is visible on the plant.

If the dracaena has dried up, it will be wrong to throw it in the trash: in the end, it faithfully served you and it is possible that it died just protecting your family from negative impacts. It is best to burn a dry stem: the energy of fire destroys any negativity. If it is not possible to burn the dracaena, then signs advise: you need to take it, carry it away from home and bury it in a forest or a desert place.

However, you should not be too afraid of bad omens, because there is a reliable way to deceive fate: a new, healthy and young sprout of the "dragon's tail", which will become a faithful defender of your well-being.
