Where did the Picts from Scotland disappear to?

It is still unknown to scientists where the Picts came from. Several versions existed at different times. Today, historians limit themselves to two. According to one of them, this is a Celtic tribe, and according to another (less popular) one, these are the native Britons who settled here in the early Bronze Age. If everything is more or less clear with this, then the question of where the Picts disappeared is still open. Each find concerning this powerful people is worth its weight in gold. Recently, archaeologists came across a stone covered in Pictish symbols.

Ancient brave warriors that even the Romans were afraid of.

The Picts inhabited the north of present-day Scotland. During the wars of conquest, Rome could not conquer this territory. The Picts confidently fought off all the attacks of the Romans. This area was then called Caledonia. Picts means "painted" in Latin. In those ancient times, the Pictish kingdom was the largest and most powerful in Scotland. From historical sources, information about this people disappears around 900. Their culture at this time, most likely, assimilated with the Gallic.

Picts is translated from Latin as "painted".

Pictish stones, with their enigmatic symbols, have always been coveted finds. To date, there are only about two hundred such amazing finds. Last year, a group of archaeologists accidentally and quite unexpectedly discovered a stone 1.6 meters long. This was done during geophysical research in the small village of Aberlemno, which was once a Pictish city. The stone depicts many figures with abstract Pictish symbols. These symbols include the triple ovals, comb and mirror, as well as the crescent and double discs. Several carved symbols overlap each other, suggesting that they were carved in different periods.

Archaeologists are extremely interested in this region. A project called "Comparative Kingship" is being developed here. This project is a series of studies that have been ongoing for more than five years. Scientists study the life and way of life of the early medieval kingdoms in Northern England and Ireland.

The discovery was made by chance one day when the equipment signaled strange anomalies. These anomalies could be the remains of an ancient village. Archaeologists were standing on the grass right above this place. Then they began to dig carefully and luck smiled at them. A carved Pictish stone appeared in front of the eyes of scientists. It took a long time to complete the excavations. A negative contribution was made by restrictions related to COVID-19. Now the happy explorers are busy deciphering the mysterious symbols from the exciting find.

The find was made accidentally.

In the past, such priceless artifacts were often dug up by farmers or road workers. Now archaeologists are lucky: the stone is intact and untouched. You can freely explore it. Now there is a find that can tell more details about how the Picts lived in the hands of scientists. It is not yet clear what the mysterious symbols mean. Scientists believe that this is most likely a system representing Pictish names. The artifact dates back to the 5th or 6th century.

The Pictish artifact is over 1500 years old.

The Pictish artifact is a truly unique discovery. It has now been placed in the conservation laboratory of Graciela Ainsworth, located in Edinburgh, where a more detailed analysis will be carried out. The mystery of the great nation may soon be unraveled.
