This Hawaiian Island Has Been Closed To People For 100 Years

Hawaii is a popular resort visited by people from all over the world. However, few people know that on the very outskirts there is an island that is closed to the public. It was closed at the beginning of the last century, and it is not possible to get there today. At the same time, there are indigenous people on the island - it is forbidden for others to visit here.

The island is called Niihau. Its area is almost 180 kilometers. Its open areas are often visited by tourists. In 1865, the territory was acquired by one of the representatives of the Sinclair family. The ruler of that time sold the island for an impressive amount of gold.

The Sinclair family established their rules for those who lived here. In those days, farms appeared on the territory, the land was inhabited by people and sheep. This approach has significantly affected the natural resources of the island and its fauna.

The family that bought the island did everything possible to make the islanders feel comfortable. They built houses for this. But the idea did not work out as expected, and many people could not accept the new living conditions and left the island. It was then that the tradition of weaving mats disappeared, as the cattle destroyed the entire flora.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, the grandson of the family decided to make the territory closed, and since then entry here has been prohibited for outsiders. Tourists cannot visit the island, and in order for locals to see relatives, they must obtain special permission.
