Baker sculpts movie characters from gingerbread

Baker Caroline Eriksson from Oslo sculpts ginger dough sculptures. But these are not ordinary gingerbread houses, but the heroes of famous films. Each one is amazingly realistic and completely edible.

Eriksson has been creating her gingerbread art for almost 10 years. “The new techniques and recipes I developed along the way now also allow me to work with gingerbread in the same way I would with clay—I can mold from soft, pre-baked gingerbread dough and let it air dry,” she explains. - It opens up a lot more possibilities for what can be created.

“Depending on the shape and size of the creation, I either use only gingerbread, which makes it completely edible, or I use steel wire and foil reinforcement to fill in the structure. When I'm happy with the sculpture itself, I tweak the details with tools and then retouch it with edible paints to give it more contrast and life."
Her portfolio includes sculptures of characters such as Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy, Venom from Spider-Man and Optimus Prime from Transformers. Some of them are almost life-size, others are somewhat smaller. “I'm into science fiction, fantasy and horror, and I'm fascinated by fantasy characters and monsters,” admits Eriksson.

All characters are fully edible, except for the wire frame.

It takes the baker up to 5 weeks to create one character.
