How not to catch a cold under the air conditioner?

Due to the clearly noticeable climate change, it is no longer possible to imagine a modern office or housing without air conditioning. But in hot weather, when you have to work or rest with the air conditioner on, you must follow basic rules so as not to overcool and not get sick. Here are some simple tips.

The difference between the temperature outside and inside the room where the air conditioner is operating should not exceed 7–10 °, while lowering the temperature in the room during extreme heat should be gradual - by 2–3 ° per hour. In order not to catch a cold, you need to select the operating mode of the cooling device (AC) correctly. Modern air conditioners have a function that provides a coordinated swing of horizontal and vertical blinds. This provides volumetric air flow, eliminating drafts. The optimum value of the air temperature at workplaces in offices and apartments is + 22 ... + 25 ° С.

The cold air flow must not be directed to the work or sleeping area. The distance from the air conditioner to the nearest workplace/sleeping place should be at least two meters.

It is important to avoid sudden temperature changes; for this, before leaving the cooled room and going outside, you need to stand for some time in not air conditioned rooms or in the entrance. And vice versa, if it is very hot outside, do not go directly into the room where the air conditioner is operating, the transition should be gradual.

In order for the air conditioner not to harm one’s health and serve for a long time, it is necessary to clean the filters regularly, and to arrange a complete cleaning, rinsing and disinfection of the device once a year. When servicing the air conditioning equipment, only cleaning materials permitted for these purposes should be used.
